Students in Grades: 2-3, Fee: $25 per Class, Time: 3:15 – 4:45 p.m. Classes are held at the Joel School. Instructor: Joanna Siciliano At the end of each workshop the Young Chefs will leave with a packet of info on how to recreate what we made in class and tasty treats for their family to try.
June 12th: Summer is just around the corner. Since we will be home with our families we will learn how to make homemade baked chicken nuggets so we can help make dinner. Along with this tasty dinner we will make smoothies that will give us great energy for all our summer activities.
Martial Art Classes are available through Madison Academy located at 130 Fort Path Road, Unit 10, Madison, CT. Classes will meet twice a week for eight weeks. Various days and times are available. Classes available are Taekwondo (ages 3 to adult), Cardio-Kickboxing (ages 10 to adult). The fee is $65 per session. ($75 for Non-residents) Uniforms are required for all Taekwondo classes. Session II: ZUMBA GOLD for Beginners – This class will include strength training and toning. It will be 45 minutes of Zumba Gold with weights and bands. Join the Party with Aleen. Crossfit Battleground’s program is designed to help kids and pre-teens develop for fitness. They believe that by making exercise fun, in a class setting, with measurable and obtainable results, they will start our youth off in a positive direction. Our program will help your child gain more self-confidence, and instill a healthy, positive body image. All classes are taught by a qualified and knowledgeable instructor. Will officially open on June 22nd. Beach passes can be purchased from the Gate Keeper, at the Town Beach, between the hours of 9 am to 3 pm daily (weather permitting). YOUTH BASKETBALL CAMP:
Boys and Girls Entering Grades 1, 2, and 3 as of September 2013 will be held at the Joel School Gym. The Camp will focus on basketball fundamentals, enthusiasm, and having fun! Starts: July 1, 2, 3, 5, 2013. Time: 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Each camper receives a Tee- shirt. Enrollment is limited to 35 campers. (Clinton Residents Only!) Fee is $60.00 per camper.
Come join us for fun, games, and crafts! Open to children who are 4 years old and entering Kindergarten as of September 2013 and older. This six-week program will run from July 2nd to August 10th. The Fun Camp will meet three days a week at the Peters Complex and the other two days at the Town Beach. The hours are Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. & Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The Wednesday extension allows for more activities and better field trips to brighten up your child’s Summer. LET’S GET SEWING:
(Ages 8 and older) July 22 – 25, 2013 Time: 1 – 3:30 p.m. Class will be held at the P & R Building. Instructor: Claudia Mathison Here is your chance to learn how to sew on a machine! New and experienced sewers are welcome to join us for a fun and crafty week of machine and hand sewing. Design and sew a cozy stuffed animal, colorful patchwork purse, crazy sock critters and an embroidered pillow. Have fun and make new friends! Machines are provided. Class size is limited to 10. BEGINNERS FENCING CAMP:
July 22 – 26, 2013, Boys & Girls: Grades 6 – 8, Time: 9am – 12 p.m., Fee: $100 (Non-residents: $110.00) Students will learn classical foil fencing, the traditional beginning weapon of the sport. Fencers will progress from basic foil technique to actual bouting with moderately fast and difficult hand and foot work. Teaching emphasis includes conditioning, hand/eye coordination, basic technique, and the rules and practices of the sport. On Friday there will be a camp competition and parents are encouraged to attend. Basic equipment is provided. Instructor: James Barnett who has more than 30 years of elite competition and coaching experience.
SUMMER CHEERLEADING CAMP:
Ages: 5 -12 (Boys & Girls) Week of: Aug. 5 – 9, 2013, Time: 9 – 12 p.m., at one of our School Gyms. Age appropriate fundamental cheerleading and dance skills including cheerleading motion technique, dances, jumps, tumbling and stunts will be presented in a safe environment. There will be lots to do including confidence-building activities, make your own hair bow, and of course cheer and dances daily. Participants will be assigned a big buddy (current Morgan Cheerleader) that will work with them one on one to ensure quality camp experience. There will be a performance on the final day of camp for parents and visitors. Every participant will receive a free T-shirt and a set of pom poms. This multi-sport program gives children ages 4 to 7 a positive first step into athletics. Baseball, basketball and soccer are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun. Our Mini-Hawk games and activities were designed to allow campers to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination, and skill development at their own pace. Skyhawks staff is trained to handle the specific needs of young athletes.

STARTING NEW AT GOLF:
August 12 – 16, 2013, held at the Indian River Complex. Ages 5 – 8 yrs. Time: 9 am – 12 p.m. Fee: $104 ($109 Non-residents) Skyhawks Golf focuses on building the confidence of young athletes through proper technique and refining the essential skills of the game. Golf is a challenging and lifelong sport, so young athletes need proper focus on the fundamentals of form, swinging, putting, and body positioning. To assist in this training, Skyhawks has adopted the SNAG (Starting New at Golf) system to its curriculum. SNAG is specifically designed for the entry-level player; SNAG simplifies instruction so that young players can make an easy and effective transition onto the golf course. No need to bring your own clubs–all equipment is provided. For safety reasons we utilize special helmets for all campers and keep the instructor-to-camper ratio for this program very low, resulting in limited availability. These programs fill up quickly.

US SPORTS MULTI SPORTS CAMP:

All activities will take place in an atmosphere which promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork and most of all fun. US SPORTS SQUIRTS CAMP:
July 22 – 26, 2013, Time: 4:30 – 5:30 pm, Ages: 3 to 5 year olds. Fee: $69 ($74 Non-residents) This program is a great way to introduce children aged 3 to 5 to a variety of sports such as Soccer, T-ball, Basketball, Tennis, Lacrosse and Hockey all taking place in a safe structured environment to ensure learning. Activities are designed to evoke a child’s imagination in which they can find Nemo, send Shrek into a spin or capture Jellyfish with Sponge Bob Square Pants. All activities promote hand-eye coordination, movement and balance and most importantly Fun! Camp will be held at the Peters Complex. All Campers will receive a T-shirt and certificate.
BEGINNER LACROSSE CLINIC:
July 15 – 19, 2013, Time: 5:00 – 6:30 pm. Ages: 5 – 12 yrs. old. Fee: $89 ($94 Non-residents) At the Peters Complex. Beginner Lacrosse players will have Great fun learning this exhilarating game. The program is ideal for entry level players with no previous experience. Players can experience, Stick Handling, Passing, Scooping, Dodging and shooting as well as many other fundamental Techniques. Players will be grouped by age, playing ability and experience level. No previous experience playing lacrosse is required to attend the clinic. All campers will receive T-shirt and certificate.
ENVIRONMENTAL ECOLOGY CAMP:
July 8 – 12, 2013, Time: 9 am – 12 noon, For children entering grades 2 – 6 as of Sept. 2013. Registration for Ecology Camp will open on May 15th to Clinton residents (Clinton residents will get “first dibs”). Non-residents may register after May 29th. Monday – Wednesday – Friday: Clinton Town Beach, Tuesday: Entrance of Peter’s Woods, Valley Road and Thursday: the Indian River Recreational Complex Beach Days: Join local teacher and Clinton Land Trust Board Member, Dana Skidmore, for 3 mornings of beach exploration. Children will be introduced to varying habitats: the salt marsh, the sandy beach and the mud flats. They will use bucket and dip nets as well as beach seines to experience the local marine life in the sound. They will get a crab’s eye view of barnacles feeding, periwinkles grazing on algae, green crabs scurrying about, and ospreys flying overhead and great egrets majestically wading in the water. Peter’s Woods & Indian River Complex: Discover some of Clinton’s finest hiking trails! Spend two mornings with Mrs. Skidmore exploring local animal and plant species. Discover the mystery of a vernal pool and all of its inhabitants. Learn the difference between a red oak and a white oak tree, feel the strong bark of a tulip tree and experience the smell of a black birch tree branch. Listen to the woodland bird songs, discover many life forms that live under logs in the forest, and catch a glimpse of a painted turtle sunning itself on a log.
